I should have been running my very first 50K this past weekend. By now I know that the weather would’ve been perfect-no rain and neither too warm or too cold with a gentle breeze. By now I would know if I’d pulled it off or if not, hopefully be proud of the fact I tried. By now I would more than likely be stretched out on the sofa wallowing in a sea of carbs.
Once the race was cancelled a couple of months ago I stopped training and so on Saturday when the expected day of the race dawned, I could not fathom in a million years how I’d ever thought I could run 50K. Earlier in the week I’d received an email from the organisers suggesting a virtual race and I was seduced by the idea of 100K in 7 days. I figured I could split it into 5 days of 14K and 2 days of 15K and viewed like that, it seemed doable. Only I’ve never run 7 days in a row and never done a weekly mileage that high. What to do? Go for it of course!
In my next post I’ll go into detail about how the week panned out … or didn’t!
