My hair accepts some shocking abuse. It’s constantly subjected to whatever the weather throws at it and I’ll often run wearing a cap hoping to fend off the worst of the sun’s rays but it does mean my scalp is one hot, sweaty mess for hours at a time. It can get very itchy too.
So I was intrigued to hear about by the concept of reverse shampooing. Have you heard of it? It’s supposed to be beneficial for pretty much any hair type that suffers from damage or dryness. That’s us, wrinkly runners!
The idea is to wash your hair BUT you apply the conditioner BEFORE the shampoo! And you do this method every other wash.
The thinking behind it is if you apply conditioner first, it creates a protective film over the hair. Then when you shampoo, the harsh cleansers in the shampoo can’t penetrate as deep, so less of the natural oils are stripped away.
So you apply the conditioner on wet hair, leave it on for a few minutes and rinse. Then, you apply shampoo. It’s just like a regular wash but in reverse order.
I gave it a go.
I have to say I’m surprisingly impressed (I was skeptical).
I used TRESemmé Moisture Rich shampoo and conditioner (mainly as it’s what my son already had in the shower!) I didn’t want to use any special stuff-just wanted to see how a standard product fared in my test. I did spend quite a while massaging the conditioner in and then shampooed well afterwards.
And this is how it turned out.
Not too shabby!
